Former NFL Athlete Antonio Brown Enters Innocent Plea in Attempted Murder Charges
Former National Football League wide receiver Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to address an attempted murder charge related to a incident that occurred in May, as his counsel entering a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Correctional records in Essex County, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was discharged on Tuesday morning for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous players in the NFL, had relinquished extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was taken after being arrested in Dubai.
Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an message that he has already filed a written innocent declaration to the murder attempt charge. Brown could be in a Miami court as soon as Wednesday morning for a bond session, Eiglarsh stated.
As per his apprehension warrant, Brown is accused of taking a pistol from a safety employee after a celebrity boxing contest in May and shooting two rounds at a individual he had fought with previously. The alleged individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told police that one shot scraped his throat.
Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was only protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was obliged to take were purely in self-protection against the claimed victim’s aggressive conduct. Brown was assaulted that evening and acted within his lawful privilege to defend himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not right away arrested because originally authorities did not recognize Nantambu as a affected party. It not until subsequently in May that Nantambu provided a detailed testimony about the situation to police and identified Brown as the gunman, the document says.
According to his social media updates, Brown had been staying in the city of Dubai for multiple weeks. In a post after the confrontation, Brown stated he was protecting himself because he was “assaulted by numerous individuals who attempted to take my valuables and inflict physical damage to me.”
A category two murder attempt charge in Florida bears a maximum 15-year incarceration sentence and up to a $10,000 fee in the case of a finding.
Brown has faced several legal challenges over the period. He previously had been alleged of battery of a truck driver, several domestic violence allegations, neglect to pay family payments and additional events.
During a recent match with his team against the Jets, Brown took off his shirt, shoulder pads and gloves and ran off the arena, resulting in his release by the franchise and effectively ending his NFL tenure.
Brown, who spent a dozen years in the league, was an All-Pro player who spent the majority of his tenure with Pittsburgh. During his time, Brown had nine hundred twenty-eight receptions for above 12,291 yards, the twenty-eighth highest of record. He was a multiple-time all-star pick.
